Are You Eligible For The Japan Rail Pass?:

To get a Japan Rail pass all you need is a valid ‘temporary visitor’ stamped in your passport. If you are travelling on an Australian passport then for sightseeing purporses then you will automatically receive this when you pass through customers in Japan.

If you are travelling to Japan for other purposes such as to work and study, then you will not be eligible for the JR Rail Pass. You will be allowed to purchase single sector fares.

Japanese Nationals Information:

The JR Rail Pass is not availible for sale to residences living in Japan. If you are living outside of Japan you are eligible if you comply to the following guidelines:

a. You are qualified to live permanently in that country
or
b. You are married to a non-Japanese residing in a country other than Japan.

Note: You qualify under those circumstances, you must present the relating documents when you purchase the ‘Exchange Order’.
